Reopening Southern Maryland: Phase 2
Effective this evening, June 5, 2020 at 5 p.m. Maryland will begin to move into Phase 2 of Governor Hogan’s Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery Plan. This phase includes a safe, gradual reopening of non-essential businesses including large and small retail shops, construction, and some workplaces such as legal offices, accounting, banking and other financial institutions, insurance agencies and more. All reopening businesses must adhere to public health and safety guidelines, which includes:
- Wearing face coverings whenever face-to-face interactions take place
- Conducting temperature checks for workers and other personnel
- Limiting the proximity of employees by rotating hours, implementing split shifts, shorter work weeks and staggering shift start and break times.
As with Phase 1, Phase 2 will be implemented at the discretion of individual jurisdiction leaders. This will allow individual jurisdictions to make decisions based on local data, allowing them a flexible and community-based approach to the Governor’s reopening plan. Calvert County
Calvert County announced its plans to follow Governor Hogan’s plans to implement Phase 2 on Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. County government is open, however buildings remain closed to the public. Parks will open up to the public on Friday at 5 p.m. as well. Residents are reminded that the Calvert County COVID-19 Virtual Resource Center will continue to update with the most up-to-date information as the county prepares to reopen.
Charles County
The Board of Commissioners in Charles County voted unanimously to move forward with the reopening of non-essential businesses in accordance with Governor Hogan’s executive order that becomes effective today at 5 p.m.
St. Mary’s County
St. Mary’s County announced that it, too will follow Governor Hogan’s guidance and allow the reopening of non-essential businesses on Friday at 5 p.m. Additionally, beginning Monday, June 8 many of St. Mary’s County Government Departments and Offices will begin to offer appointments to the public.
Things to Remember
As each jurisdiction begins to reopen, it is important to remember to maintain physical distance, keep gatherings to 10 persons or fewer, wear face coverings and wash hands or use hand sanitizer frequently.
